Description

Fritware, coated in a white and blue glaze decorated with blue and painted with lustre

Fritware, wheel thrown, coated in a white and blue glaze decorated with blue and painted with lustre
Shape: hemispherical bowl with plain rim, sits on low, wide foot ring
Interior: on the rim a hunt scene of dogs and hares surrounded by scrolling vegetation are reserved in lustre. On the body decoration is contained by a blue line on the rim and four inter-connecting palmettes, outlined in blue, which form a star shape on the base. Reserved in lustre within these palmettes, horsemen are surrounded by scrolling half palmettes. Jewel like motifs, surrounded by dots and scrolls are painted in lustre in the spandrels between the blue palmettes, in the inter-connected sections and the star shape on the base.
Exterior: the rim is painted with a lustre band above lustre arabesques on the body. The glaze terminates unevenly on the exterior foot ring. The underside of the foot ring is lightly coated with blue glaze.
