Maker: Unknown (Probably)
Red earthenware, the front coated with white slip. Incised decoration with cut-away background, painted in greyish-blue, green, and brownish-yellow under lead glaze which extends unevenly over the back. Circular with very shallow curved sides (Shape 96).
An allegory. Two women seated on each side of a tree entwined by a serpent. The one on the left (Eve?) holds the serpent's head; the other (Pandora?) holds an open box. Behind each woman is a small tree. In the foreground, a woman approaches from the left towards a bird standing on top of an oval box beside a tree, and a man holding a bird approaches from the right towards an open box on the other side of the tree. Round the edge is a border of slanting S-scrolls between 'ropes'.
