Description

Fritware painted in polychrome under a colourless glaze

Fritware, probably mould made, painted in red slip, blue, emerald green and black under a colourless glaze
Shape: segmental bowl with a plain rim, sits on a low, wide foot ring
Interior: below the rim a frieze of half rosettes with red central dot are reserved in blue. On the upper body, blue cloud bands and red dots are suspended from this frieze. A floral spray of red carnations emanates from a central small pot and occupies most of the body; this is overlain by polychrome curved saz leaves and wild rose branches.
Exterior: a series of concentric black lines below the rim and on the foot ring enclose a frieze of paired tulips and rosettes painted in blue, black and green. The glaze covers the surface except for the rim of the foot ring.
