Description

Hand-built tea bowl of globular form with irregular rim. A rough
red Raku ware painted in a salmon pink over a cream slip and decorated with a fine pine sapling and inscription in black (‘His longevity like a mountain , his ancestors all come from the East to celebrate his 83rd birthday’); this is possibly when the original owner visited the Sumiyoshi Shrine, and bought the tea bowl outside the shrine . The whole is finely covered in a cloudy white glaze which fills the uneven dips in the body. The inside is rough; the inner hollow was done by four scrapings. Raku spiral in the centre of the foot ring.
