Earthenware coated with cream slip, with incised decoration painted in green, yellow and reddish-brown under lead-glaze.
Reddish-brown earthenware coated with cream slip on the front and back of the rim, with incised decoration painted in green, yellow and reddish-brown under lead-glaze; the base is undecorated. The dish is circular with a sloping rim, and curved sides, standing on a disc base. On the reverse of the rim there is a small thick loop for suspension. The well is decorated with a yellow rampant lion facing to left and holding a spade, with flowering plant on either side, and the date '1779' over his head. There are bands of rouletting (or chattering) at the junction of the well and border and a little below the outer edge. The border is divided by radiating leaves into six compartments, each containing a floral spray. On the exterior the underside of the border is similarly divided and in each compartment has a fan-shaped plant flanked by two small plants with three flowers. A band of rouletting encircles the foot and the outer edge.
