Production: Unidentified Heimberg potter
Red earthenware coated with dark brown slip, and painted in white and red slips, yellow and green with a man and woman in contemporary costume. The rim is inscribed in slip,'lieben und gelichet wörden ist die grosse freud auf ärden 1810' (To love and be loved is the great joy on earth)
Reddish-buff earthenware, thrown, coated on the front with dark brown slip, decorated with an incised design and painted in brown and white slip, green, and yellow, under clear, probably lead glaze The circular dish has a deep curved well, a steeply rising curved border with a vertical edge on the exterior. In the middle a man and woman stroll among flowering plants. He smokes a large pipe, and holds his companion by her hand.He wears a high-crowned, broad-brimmed green hat, a green coat, brown trunks and white boots. His companion has a yellow hat tilted at a rakish angle, a yellow bodice and a brown skirt with a white apron over the front. On either side of them there is a stylized plant with a red flower and green leaves with incised veins. There are three concentric circles round the inner and outer edges of the border which is slip trailed with an inscription and date: Lieben und glichet wördeb ust due grise freyd auf ärden 1810'. The exterior sides are glazed, and the base is unglaze.
