Renaissance maiolica plate, painted in polychrome with, in the middle, a recumbent stag, surrounded by lozenges and plant motifs.
Earthenware, tin-glazed overall; the glaze on the reverse is uneven, tinged with pink and crazed. Painted in dark blue, green, yellow, and orange.
Circular with flat surface and narrow, concave base.
The central medallion contains a recumbent stag in a landscape enclosed by a circular yellow frame decorated with blue zig-zags. This is surrounded by lozenges in foliated circles alternating with stylised plant motifs reserved in an orange ground. Round the edge is a repeating border of blue lines and groups of four oblique strokes over a wide yellow band. The back is decorated in blue with a central `L' crossed, surrounded by five squiggles alternating with crossed lozenges.
