Potter: Unidentified Staffordshire Potter
Earthenware, slip-coated and slip-trailed under lead-glaze with Queen Anne holding a flower in each hand, with the royal cypher AR (Anna Regina) on either side of her waist, and the date 1712 below, surrounded by a trellis border on the rim
Pale red earthenware, thrown, coated on the front with white slip, slip-trailed in dark ochre, brown and white slips, and lead-glazed; the reverse is undecorated and appears reddish-brown. The front is decorated in the middle with a full-length figure of Queen Anne wearing a crown, and a long dress with a striped skirt, and holding up a tulip in her right hand and a circular petalled flower, probably a rose, in her left. On either side of her are the initials A R, and a long curved leaf with an undulating inner edge, and below, divided by her skirt, the date 17 12. The outlines of the figure and leaves are jewelled with spots of white slip. The rim is decorated in dark ochre and brown with a trellis pattern.

Queen Anne, the last of the Stuart monarchs to be crowned, ruled from 1702 to 1714. The date, 1712, is evidence for the continuation of this style of slip-trailed decoration well into the eighteenth century.
