Maiolica roundel, painted in polychrome with a shore scene of trees, figures, ships, and buildings on rugged cliffs.
Earthenware, tin-glazed off-white on both sides. Painted in pale greyish-blue, sage-green, yellow, brown, grey, and black.
Circular with raised edge.
A shore scene with two trees, figures, and ships at anchor in the foreground, and buildings on rugged cliffs in the distance. A dark brown and a yellow band encircle the outer edge. The centre of the reverse is signed `C:ne G:li P:/1716' in pale greyish-blue.
History note: Countess Howard de Walden; Thomas Sutton, Eastbourne, from whom purchased in February 1900 by Dr J.W.L. Glaisher (MS 1479).

This view was derived from a rectangular etching of a shore scene by Gabriel PĂ©relle (1603-77) or his sons, Nicolas and Adam, who worked with him.
