Description

Tin-glazed earthenware plated painted in manganese-purple with a bird, a Chinese boy holding a vase, and a flowering tree

Pinkish-buff earthenware tin-glazed overall and painted in manganese purple. The glaze is uneven and streaked on the reverse, and the body shows through it. The plate has a twelve-sided edge, a sloping rim, and a flat well. It is painted on the flat area with a bird, and a Chinese boy holding a vase standing beside a contorted flowering tree. On the sloping rim there are six detached leaf sprays, and below the edge, a scalloped line with six pendant bunches of leaves.
