Renaissance maiolica plate, painted in polychrome with a woman representing Temperance.

Plate. Earthenware, tin-glazed overall; the reverse tinged with green. Painted in blue, green, yellow, orange, manganese-purple, and black.
Shape 51. Circular with gently sloping sides and small shallow well.
A woman representing Temperance stands holding a ewer in her right hand and a vase in her left. She wears a yellow skirt, a blue tunic and a purple cloak. In the foreground is a stony path, on the left, three trees, and in the distance, the sea or a lake with hills and buildings on the right. The rim is yellow.
