Description

Box and cover. Hard-paste porcelain painted in yellow, green, iron-red, pale blue and black enamels with a dragon pursuing a 'flaming pearl' amongst flame and cloud scrolls.

Box and cover. Hard-paste porcelain painted in yellow, green, iron-red, pale blue and black enamels. The cylindrical sides are gently tapered towards the unglazed convex base, and are encircled by a raised band and burnt a speckled rich orange in the firing. The sides of the box are boldly decorated on the exterior with a single fiery dragon pursuing a 'flaming pearl' amongst scattered flame and ruyi-shaped cloud scrolls. The shorter sides of the cover (A) have matching flame and cloud scrolls and the domed top has a futher dragon swooping downwards to grab an iron-red pearl; all between line borders in iron-red. The interior of both the box and cover are unglazed and reveal the hard, close-grained porcelain.
