Seal paste box and cover. Hard-paste porcelain decorated on the biscuit in underglaze blue and in yellow, green, aubergine and pale turquoise-blue enamels. Of rectangular form with well rounded corners. The cover is delicately painted on the top with a pair of phoenix standing on an outcrop of jagged ornamental rockwork in underglaze-blue, surrounded by a profusion of large peony sprays and a prunus-tree in blossom. The sides are encircled by a border of upright yellow lappets edged in green above the lipped edge. The shallow box has a corresponding lipped edge and a raised border on the interior of the rim to accomodate the cover, and is decorated round the sides with four clusters of different floral sprays growing behind pierced rockwork. The interior of the cover and box and the base has been applied with a translucent enamel of greenish tone with faint iridescence.
