Tin-glazed earthenware dish painted in blue, green, and yellow with a bust of Mary II flanked by tulips and surrounded by a border of tulips, and other flowers and foliage
Earthenware, moulded, tin-glazed, and painted in blue, sage-green, and yellow. Circular with a wavy edge, wide gadrooned rim, and deep fluted well, standing on a footring. In the middle is a half figure of Queen Mary II wearing a crown, flanked by formal yellow tulips, with the initials 'M R' above. On the rim there is a garland of similar tulips alternating with daisy-shaped flowers with yellow centres, tendrills and foliage on a continuous stem.
History note: Christie, Manson & Woods, 3 December 1909, part of lot 201; bought by Mr Stoner for 8½ guineas on behalf of Dr Glaisher, FRS, Trinity College, Cambridge, who paid him 10% extra for the two dishes
