Description
Maiolica dish on low foot, painted in polychrome with a bust of a woman.
Pale yellowish-buff earthenware, tin-glazed overall. Painted in blue, yellow, orange, manganese-brown, and white.
Shape 78. Circular with shallow curved sides, standing on a low foot, with a shallow depression running round the junction of the foot and dish.
A bust of a woman three-quarter face. She has auburn hair dressed high over her forehead and wears an earring in her right ear, a blue bead necklace, a chemise with a ruffled standing collar, and a yellow bodice with orange bindings. The background is blue and there is a narrow blue line below the yellow rim.

: The date of manufacture is uncertain.The colouring and costume suggest late 16th century but the treatment of the features could indicate that it was a 19th century pastiche.
