Baluster vase. Hard-paste porcelain painted in green, yellow, iron-red and black enamels and underglaze blue with three boys among dense peony sprays.
Baluster vase. Hard-paste porcelain painted in green, yellow, iron-red and black enamels and underglaze blue. The slender shouldered body is gently splayed towards the rough, unglazed base. The body is decorated with a dense continuous design of three boys wearing yellow aprons clambering amongst enormous sprays of peony; the stems and leaves are in vibrant underglaze blue bearing numerous green foliate scrolls; the blooms are in iron-red, yellow and pale underglaze blue. There is a border of stylised overlapping waves in iron-red and a collar of ruyi-heads in underglaze blue outline in red and green encircling the base of the neck, now removed and replaced with a loose porcelain lining ring.
