Dish with flat-fish cover
Production: Unidentified Delft factory
Tin-glazed earthenware painted in blue and green and olive-green
Buff earthenware, moulded, tin-glazed bluish-white,, and painted in blue, green, and olive-green. The oval dish has deep almost straight sides, a wavy projecting lower edge, and two semi-circular projecting lugs at either end of the top. The cover is in the shape of a slightly convex flat fish with an open mouth which forms a spout. It has an oval ring underneath which fits inside the top of the lower part. The sides of the dish are painted in blue with wide stripes alternately decorated with criss-cross lines and four squares filled with vertical lines. The edge of the base has projecting short strokes and trefoils, and the lugs are blue overall. The cover is painted natiuralistically to resemble a fish.
