Description

Tin-glazed earthenware plate decorated in pale yellowish-gold lustre

Pale buff earthenware, tin-glazed cream overall and painted in yellowish-gold lustre. Circular with sloping sides and central depression with a small, flattened boss. The sides are divided into six panels, decorated alternately with a lily or leaf reserved in a lustred ground, and cross-hatching on a plain ground. Round the rim there is a border of alternating circular motifs separated by horizontal strokes, all over four concentric circles (somewhat like a necklace). The reverse is decorated with concentric circles; four narrow, one wide, five narrow, one wide and five narrow.
