Tin-glazed earthenware terrace vase, painted in enamels with a hunting trophy
Tin-glazed earthenware painted in green, yellow, brown, and grey enamels. The vase has a pear-shaped body and a domed cover with a knob in the form of a raspberry. It stands on a high pedestal imitating masonry, with a balustraded staircase winding up one side of it and a spaniel sitting on a grassy mound at its foot, a game-bag slung to the left. One side is painted in grey with a hunting trophy, and the base details are picked out in green, brown, grey, and yellow.
History note: N.J.G. London, Esq., 4 Chesterfield Street, Mayfair; sold at Christie's where bought by Mr Dickinson; Dickinson's Wigmore Street, London, where bought in March 1902 for £6.6s. (with C.3003 & A-1928) by Dr J.W.L. Glaisher, FRS, Trinity College, Cambridge.
