Cream earthenware, press-moulded, and decorated with green, yellow, brown, and dark brown lead-glazes. The figure stands on a roughly square low mound base, in front of a tree stump which serves as a support. The base is hollow underneath and unglazed. The boy stands with his right foot a little in front of his left. He leans forward and turns his head towards his left, while crossing his arms in front of himself, and tucking his hands inside is shirt and jacket to keep warm . He wears a broad-brimmed dark brown hat over a yellow scarf, a green-tinted shirt, a green jacket, brown breeches, and dark brown shoes.

Note

This model identified either as Winter or a Sweep, is reminiscent of a Luneville figure by Paul Louis Cyfflé. It was probably made by Ralph Wood II, after his return to Burslem in 1783 or after his death in 1795 by his son Ralph Wood III, but it might also have been made by Ralph's brother, John Wood of Brownhills.
