Description

Glazed hard-paste porcelain

Hard-paste greyish-white porcelain, press-moulded and glazed. The figure is supported on an oblong rocky base with a tree trunk at the back and a beehive beside it on the viewer's right. Summer is represented as a boy looking downards to his left. He stands on his right leg with his left bent at the knee and crossed in front of it. He leans his left elbow on a projecting branch of the tree. He supports a sheaf of corn on his right hip with his right hand, and holds a small posy of flowers in his left hand. He wears a wreath of corn over his short hair, a shirt with a frilled opening which has fallen off his left shoulder, and front -fall breeches. His lower legs and feet are bare. His coat is thrown over the beehive. The underside of the base has a large ventilation hole with a short and a long firing crack extending from it. The figure is very heavy.
