Grey earthenware, thrown, with applied decoration, covered with thick green glaze mottled with cream. Oblong with one rounded end and one straight end. There are two longitudinal ridges forming a band down the middle, and on one edge, a series of seven applied overlapping tongue-shaped pieces of clay. The inside appears brown and the throwing ridges are clearly visible.
History note: Found in London (outside the City boundary) by G.F. Lawrence of Wandsworth, and given by him to Bernard Rackham (1876-1964)
