Description

White earthenware with blue-tinted lead-glaze, transfer-printed in black. The glaze appears most blue on the base. Cylindrical mug, with recessed base, lacking its handle and a section of the side and a section of the rim missing. The side opposite to the handle there is an oval medallion enclosing a little boy holding his hat up in his left hand and riding astride a dog with the word 'DOCILITY' below. The medallion has a roughly kidney-shaped frame enclosing the inscription 'ALTHO A TRIFLE THIS MAY SEEM IT [gap] A PLEDGE MY ESTEEM'.
