Description

Yellow-glazed earthenware cup and saucer, bat-printed onglaze in black with different vignettes of a mother and child on each piece.

Yellow-glazed earthenware, bat-printed onglaze in black and painted in black enamel. The circular, deep-sided cup has a loop handle, and stands on a projecting footring. The circular saucer has deep curved sides, and stands on a footring. The cup is decorated with a mother seated on a stool, holding the arm and shoulder of a small boy who kneels in front of her. There are black enamel bands round the rim and foot, and a spot, a stylised leaf and a longtitudinal stroke on the back of the handle. The saucer is decorated with a small child lying on a sofa, and a mother kneeling on a stool in front of it. The vignette is surrounded by a narrow black circle, and there is a thicker black band on the rim.
