Baluster vase. Hard-paste porcelain decorated in soft underglaze blue and in bright iron-red, yellow, green, turquoise, aubergine and black enamels. The shouldered body is slightly splayed towards the unglazed base. The sides are painted with a continuous scene of a court figure seated on an elaborate high dais watching a servant proffering a dish to a lady holding a brush, another figure looking on holding a fly-whisk; all on a garden terrace with ornamental rockwork and banana palms, and mountains wreathed in clouds rising in the distance. The short flared neck has a heavily lipped rim encircled by a band of small pointed upright petals in red and green between line borders in underglaze blue.
