Fritware painted in four colours under a clear glaze
Fritware, wheel thrown, painted in black, blue, purple and turquoise under a clear glaze.
Shape: carinated bowl with inverted rim sitting on a foot ring.
Interior: rim is painted black and a black concentric line in painted on the neck. On the body a vertical panel frieze, enclosed within two concentric lines, radiates from the base. The panels alternate between narrow and wide versions. The narrow panels are filled with a chain stripe pattern outlined in black and coloured in purple and turquoise, painted against a blue background. The wider panels contain either a similar chain stripe pattern, except on a white ground, or a black diagonal cross made from dashed lines above a dotted line. In the roundel, enclosed within a plain black line, a blue prancing hare is painted against a background o f leafy foliage in which leaves coloured turquoise, purple or blue on black stalks.
Exterior: black paint on rim continues onto exterior. On the neck a narrow frieze of blue and black āVā shapes is enclosed within two black concentric lines. On the body, alternating pairs of blue and black lines radiate from the lower body towards a black concentric line on the upper body. The glaze runs unevenly onto the lower body and foot ring; the underside of the foot ring is also glazed.
