Earthenware coated in cream slip and painted in black and turquoise under a clear glaze
Pinky buff earthenware, wheel thrown, coated in a cream slip and painted in black and turquoise under a clear, crazed and pitted glaze.
Shape: plain rim on a cono-segmental bowl and a low foot ring.
Interior: the rim is painted black. On the body, between two concentric lines a wide frieze of panels comprises turquoise pointed archways, framed above by black scrolling lines, and enclosing a black stylised fleurs-de-lis pattern. On the base, an eight pointed turquoise star, with three radiating black vertical lines between each arm, is enclosed within a black roundel. Three scars on the base indicate the use of a tripod stacking device in the kiln.
Exterior: black paint continues on the rim, while on the upper body scrolling lines are enclosed within two black concentric lines. In several areas the glaze does not cover this frieze, terminating on the upper body. Cream slip is coated unevenly over the exterior to a mid-point on the body.
