Fritware, painted in blue under a clear glaze
Fritware, probably wheel thrown, painted in blue and outlined in darker blue under a clear, crazed glaze
Shape: pear shaped bottle with an elongated neck and sitting on a foot ring
Exterior: all decoration is painted in blue which has run slightly on the neck. On the upper neck a frieze of backward facing ‘C’ shapes are enclosed within concentric bands. A criss-cross frieze of lines and trefoil shapes occupies most of the neck, here it is particularly noticeable that the paint has run into white background. On the body, six wedge shaped panels with pointed lobbed arches are filled with vertically orientated floral sprays and leave. Small patches on the body are not covered with glaze. The glaze runs over the foot ring exterior and also covers the underside; there are no painter’s marks.
