Description

White salt-glazed stoneware

Off-white stoneware, thrown and turned, with applied handle and salt-glaze. Pear-shaped with a sparrow beak lip, standing on a footing; applied strap handle with a pinched lower terminal. There is a turned band round the rim, a more prominent one on the shoulder, and two above the base.

History note: Thomas Sutton, Eastbourne, from whom purchased for probably 8s.0d. probably in 1898 by Dr J.W.L. Glaisher, FRS, Trinity College, Cambridge
