Description

Hard-paste porcelain large mug. Decorated with the arms of Bisse impaling Bill. This jug exemplifies the accuracy with which Chinese artisans depicted European heraldic motifs. The dexter pale field of the shield features three white scallop shells, symbols of pilgrimage or spiritual journeys common in European heraldry. The azure sinister side displays three griffons’ heads, signifying military prowess and courage. Above the shield is a crest with an esquire’s helmet adorned with entwined green snakes.
