Fritware, painted in black, blue, turquoise and purple under a clear glaze
Fritware, wheel thrown, painted in black blue, turquoise and purple under a clear, crazed glaze.
Shape: bead rim on a slightly angled lip above a segmental bowl and low foot ring
Interior: black painted rim above a frieze of black roughly drawn cartouche, containing squiggled lines, each separated by blue vertical lines and enclosed within black concentric lines. On the body, a frieze of sketchy palmettes are outlined in black against an alternating blue, turquoise or purple background, each separated by black vertical lines and enclosed within black concentric lines. On the base, a roundel with a black rosette, whose petals and stigma contain a cross-hatched central lozenge or circle, is painted against a background of black scrolling foliage coloured blue with turquoise spots.
Exterior: rim is painted black above paired blue and black vertical lines. The glaze runs unevenly over the lower body and onto the foot ring.
