Description

White stoneware, press-moulded and salt-glazed. The wall pocket is moulded in the form of a woman's face with a bow at the top. The top of her head is surrounded by acanthus leaves with three holes pierced through those in the middle. The lower part of the face is flanked by scrolls and below these is a bunch of acanthus foliage terminating in a point.

Note

Wall pockets for flowers of this design were probably made by several Staffordshire potters, such as Thomas Whieldon,at Fenton Vivian, or Thomas and John Wedgwood, at Burslem.
