Potter: Unknown
Fritware painted in three colours under a clear glaze
Fritware, mould made, painted in blue, black and yellow under a colourless glaze
Shape: flaring, fluted conical body with moulded decoration descends via a carination onto a foot ring base. On the body a cylindrical neck, with angular spout, flares outwards toward the rim. A shaped strap handle with thumb rest is attached to the neck and lower body.
Exterior: On the neck, upper body and lower body, a series of horizontal friezes of leaves or dotted circles are outlined in black and painted in blue; on upper sections these are separated by narrow bands of yellow dotted with black. On the body, moulded gadroons contain vertical wavey leaf designs, which frame an inverted arch, outlined by another yellow band, and containing a polychrome floral spray, with a black dotted fish scale pattern in the spandrels. On the spout and handle, complex patterns incorporating further fish scales and blue and yellow foliage are painted. On the base a potter’s mark is painted in black. Glaze covers the surface except for the rim of the foot ring.
Interior: undecorated except for the glaze
