Description

Fritware coated in a white slip and painted in blue, green purple and black under a clear glaze.
Shape: plain rim on a hemispherical bowl sitting on a low, narrow foot ring.
Interior: on the base, a black scalloped roundel contains a rosette overlaid with a six pointed star, both of which are outlined in black and coloured in blue and green with reserved areas left white. Three scars on the base illustrate the use of a tripod stacking device in the kiln. Glaze has pooled slightly in the base and there are slight splashes of turquoise pigment on the body.
Exterior: on the rim contained within concentric black lines is a frieze of alternating black scrolls and blue ovals. On the body, radiating from a pair of black concentric lines containing black dots, a frieze of alternating purple tulips or carnations, green leaves and blue hyacinths, all painted with a black outline. The blue and purple pigment has run slightly into the surrounding white surface. Glaze runs unevenly over the lower body and in places onto the foot ring. The underside of the foot ring is unglazed.
