Description

Fritware with white slip painted in red, blue, black and green under a clear glaze

Fritware coated in a white slip painted with red slip and blue, black and green pigment under a clear glaze.
Shape: segmental bowl with slightly angled plain rim sitting on a low, wide foot ring
Interior: on the rim, enclosed within black concentric lines, a stylised rock and wave design is painted in blue, black and green. On the body a frieze of flower pots and arabesques radiate from a central rosette painted in red, blue and green with black outlines. Springing from the blue and green flower pots are red and blue flowers, with green leaves and black stems. The arabesques separate the flower pots and are painted in blue and green with black outlining.
Exterior: on the body fleurs de lis are separated by blue and green peacock’s eye designs; both are outlined in black. Glaze covers the surface but only with thin and pitted coverage on underside of the foot ring; the rim of the foot ring is unglazed.
