House Teapot
Production: Unidentified Staffordshire factory
White salt-glazed stoneware teapot in the form of a three-storied house; cover with lion-shaped knob
White stoneware, the body slip-cast, with moulded spout, and knob, and shandle applied before salt-glazing. The teapot is in the shape of a rectangular house with three stories on the front and two on the back, with a flight of steps in the middle of each leading up to the door. The sloping tiled roof has a gable in the middle on each side and a rectangular projection at the top. The spout is in the form of monster's head with a human hand gripping the neck, and the handle is a thick shaped strap with a star motif in the middle. The flat rectangular cover has a recumbent lion knob and a deep flange which fits into the rectangular opening at the top of the pot.
