Production: Unidentified Staffordshire factory
White salt-glazed stoneware decorated with panels of relief decoration
White stoneware, slip cast with integral relief decoration, and salt-glazed. The teapot has an inverted pear-shaped body of hexagonal section, a curved octagonal spout, and loop handle. The hexagonal cover is slightly domed and has a restored recumbent dog or fox (?) knob. The panels on the sides are decorated with an imperial eagle, the fable of the Fox and the Crane, Cupid riding on a lion, a fox stealing a goose, Danaë amongst clouds above a unicorn, a huntsman with hounds, and a shield above a running stag.

Teapots with notched handles have sometimes been attributed to Thomas and John Wedgwood of the Big House, Burslem. The motifs on the side are rather blurred, probably because the pot was cast from a frequently-used mould. The motifs also occur on tea bowls and saucers, coffee cups, and sugar basins.
