House Teapot
Production: Unidentified Staffordshire Pottery
White salt-glazed stoneware teapot in the form of a house, painted with touches of cobalt-blue before glazing
White stoneware, slip cast, painted with touches of cobalt-blue, and salt-glazed. The body and cover of the pot are in the form of a three storied house with identical sides, a sloping tiled roof, a curved spout in the form of a monster's head with scrollwork on the neck, and a roll handle with two notches on the top, and a kick at the lower end. On the sides of the house, a small man is shown standing in the central doorway under an arched porch on which stands lion in relief beneath a similar arch. The reliefs are lightly touched with a few lines and spots of cobalt-blue painted before salt-glazing in the kiln.
