Description

Fritware coated in a white glaze painted in blue and lustre

Fritware, wheel thrown, coated in white glaze painted under the glaze in blue and over the glaze with lustre.
Shape: bi-conical bowl with plain rim, sits on a foot ring
Interior: on the upper body a lustre band, enclosed by lines of blue is inscribed with naskh script. On the body, a frieze of lustre inscriptions alternate with tear drop cartouche, which are outlined in blue and contain a central turquoise palmette leaf reserved on a lustre ground incised with scrolls. In the roundel, reserved on a lustred ground incised with scrolls, an arabesque is painted in blue and surrounded by half palmettes.
Exterior: on the body, kufic script, reserved on a lustre ground splashed with blue is painted above a lustre band. Glaze terminates unevenly on the foot ring; a thin coverage of clear glaze is present on the underside of the foot ring.
