Description

Creamware, printed onglaze in black and painted in green, yellow, red, mauve, and brown enamels. Cylindrical with a concave shoulder, and rows of beading round the base, shoulder and mouth, a curved spout moulded on the underside with foliage, an ear-shaped loop handle. The slightly domed circular cover is edged with beading and has a flower-shaped knob. One side is decorated with with the goddess Cybele sits holding a large key in her right hand in a carriage drawn by two lions moving to the left, with ‘Cybele’ written above. On the other side, is the world between the sun and moon amongst clouds, with a small figure of Justice holding scales and the name ‘Jehovah’ in Hebrew characters. The lid is decorated with two winged cherubs' heads.
