Pottery: Bovey Heathfield Pottery (Probably)
Pearlware painted underglaze in dark blue and yellowish-brown
Cream earthenware, moulded, and painted under blue-tinted lead glaze in dark blue and yellowish-brown. The caddy is square and has flat shoulders and a cylindrical neck. On each corner there is an applied moulded bust of a child, and on the base four coiled feet. Two opposing sides are decorated with a heart-shaped raised outline enclosing a relief of a little girl holding a doll accompanied by a little boy with a small dog on a lead, with a small tree and a low broken off colum on the left. Below them is an impressed inscription, 'SPORTIVE INNOCCENCE' .On the other two sides there is a similar heart enclosing a relief of a child holding out a bearded male mask to frighten a little girl who has fallen to the ground and raises her left hand to push it away. Below is the impressed inscription, 'MISCHIEVOUS SPORT'. In each of the lower spaces outside the heart outlines there is a painted sprig, and above one, a moth or butterfly. Painted round the top of three sides is the inscription, Eliz.th (th raised) Taylor/Born march/18th. (th raised) 1795'
