Two Children seated on a Mound


Production: Unidentified Staffordshire Pottery




Dark brown and white marbled clays (solid agateware), touched with blue on the front, and salt-glazed. Two naked children are seated on a mound on either side of a tree stump (?), with their nearest hands clasped behind it. The mound base is hollow underneath.


History note: Christie's, 6 June, 1912. Henry J. Griffith Collection, 336 Hagley Road, Birmingham; Mr Frank Stoner, London, from whom purchased for £54 on 5 October 1925 by Dr J.W.L. Glaisher, FRS, Trinity College, Cambridge
