Fritware coated in black slip, carved under a turquoise glaze
Fritware, wheel thrown, coated in black slip, carved under a turquoise glaze
Shape: inverted pear shaped body with a short, cylindrical neck, sits on a low foot ring. A rolled strap handle is applied to the neck and body.
Exterior: all decoration is carved or incised through black slip. A series of concentric bands on the rim and neck frames a frieze of rectangles. On the shoulder an inscription is incised. On the lower body, rectangular panels tapper toward the base. Handle is coated with slip. Glaze runs over the body covering the foot ring unevenly.
Interior: undecorated except for splashes of slip and turquoise glaze.
