This large bulldog is remarkable for a standing animal figure in having no base, and being supported on its own paws. The melding together of the three differently coloured clays has produced striking abstract patterns on the body which are enhanced by the yellowish lead-glaze The details of its pugnacious expression were created after moulding, and the tail was made separately and attached. This had been broken off when it was bought by J.W.L. Glaisher in 1928.
