Description

Buff earthenware coated with dark brown slip and painted over it in red, white and yellow slips, green, and gold. Bulbous body with two loop handled. The body is decorated with a wreath of formal flowers round the shoulder, with horizontal stripes below. The handles are decorated with a feather pattern.

Notes

History note: Bought in Southern Hungary by Viklmos Zsolnay (1828-1900) to copy at his factory at Fünfkirchen (Pécs); sold by his son, Miklós Zolnay at the factory's warehouse in Váci Street, Budapest on 10 August, 1910 to Dr J.W.L. Glaisher, FRS, Trinity College, Cambridge.
