Tin-glazed earthenware painted in blue, green and orange with two floral sprays, and two borders
Buff earthenware, moulded, the front tin-glazed white and painted in blue, olive-green, orange, and black; the reverse covered with manganese-purple tin-glaze. The plate is circular with a sloping rim, curved sides and flat centre. In the middle there are two sprays of stylized flowers and leaves, surrounded by a border of orange oval motifs alternating with pairs of blue spots, and close to the edge, a broad blue band between narrow black bands. The reverse is undecorated.

Faience tableware with dark manganese-brown backs, sometimes appearing almost black, are described as 'cul noir. They are usually simply decorated in blue, or polychrome, and were produced for the lower end of the market. It was produced by several factories in northern France, including Rouen, Forges-Les-Eaux, and Ferrière-La-Petite.
