Description

Tin-glazed earthenware painted in blue. Goblet-shaped with a domed top pierced to take flower stems

Buff earthenware, thrown, pierced, covered with slightly bluish tin-glaze and painted in blue. The vase is in the form of a goblet with deep curved sides and everted rim, standing on a convex circular foot. which has a concave area in the middle of the underside. The bowl of the goblet has a domed cover with a short neck and central mouth, and, round the sides, a row of twelve holes and a row of eight holes to hold the stems of flowers. There is a broad painted band round the neck, and each hole is encircled by a blue line. Between the holes there are scattered groups of three spots. The sides of the goblet are decorated with a band of paired scroll and pendant motifs with groups of three spots between the pendants. Below there are three horizontal bands. The stem is blue and the foot is decorated with radiating petals alternating with two short strokes between pairs of concentric bands.
