Earthenware jug, tin-glazed in white and blue and painted in opaque white
Buff earthenware, moulded, tin-glazed white on the inside, and blue on the outside, and painted in opaque white. The jug stands on a low foot. It has a fluted, bulbous lower part, a wide octagonal neck with a projecting lip, and a strap handle with a small thumb rest at the top. The blue exterior is decorated in white with a band round the foot and another at the shoulder, below which is band with eight spots below it alternating with three pendant strokes, probably representing leaves. The angles of the octagonal neck are striped, and there are five leaves under the lip. The back of the handle is decorated with eight horizontal leaves, and a narrow vertical leaf at the lower end.

Blue tin-glaze was used in Italy during the sixteenth century and in France and England in the late seventeenth century, but the shape of this jug indicates that it was probably made in the nineteenth century, possibly in France.
