Buff earthenware partially covered with yellow lead glaze. The mug is cylindrical with a slightly spreading base and mouth, the lower part ribbed, grooved loop handle with thumb-impression at the lower end.
History note: Found in the River Taw below Barnstaple. Theodore Charbonnier Collection, Lynton; purchased in 1912 by Dr J.W.L. Glaisher, FRS, Trinity College, Cambridge
