Description

Maiolica pharmacy jar, painted in polychrome with a flower and branching leaves on each side.

Earthenware, tin-glazed off-white on the interior and exterior; base streaked with glaze. Painted in bright blue, bluish-green, and yellow, and manganese-purple. Albarello with straight sides, and shallow recess in the base.
On each side is a yellow and blue flower with branching leaves above and below which curve to right and left. The ground is blue. Round the shoulder and base are narrow horizontal manganese, and wider green and yellow, bands.

History note: Taormina, where purchased on 19 April 1904 by Dr J.W.L. Glaisher (Typed Cat. 2044).
